NEUROPATHY (NERVE PATHOLOGY)
I have only one pet peeved and that is when doctors tell patients they have idiopathic neuropathy. Honestly I don't know what that is or what it means... I see so many people who have gone to all the experts, the Mayo Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic and they have spent tens of thousands of dollars and I ask them, "So what did they tell you is the problem?" and they say "Oh it's neuropathy". And then I ask them, "What did they say is causing your neuropathy?" and unfortunately the answer is usually, "They don't know..." Honestly, this is ridiculous. What a failure for medicine. I mean even I, in my little clinic in Fort Myers, Florida know the primary cause of neuropathy, is ischemia. What are these big institutions thinking? Because they know that ischemia is the underlying mechanism for neuropathy but guess what? That's not listed on the insurance claims form but idiopathic is. So they go with that and prescribe Gabapentin or Neurontin or Lyrica, which by the way is an anti-epileptic drug. Have you got bad feet or epilepsy? You cannot make this stuff up, and honestly one of the main reasons I am not going to retire anytime soon is because I just cannot wait to see what madness they come up with next, I mean nothing surprises me anymore, especially in the crazy world of neuropathy. So let's just get right into it...
