What is Angiogenics? Simply put, it is a treatment approach that helps your body heal, naturally without drugs or invasive procedures like injections or surgery. Our clinical experience has taught that the underlying cause of most chronic conditions is ischemia (a restriction in the blood supply to tissues) which causes a shortage of oxygen and glucose resulting in degeneration and retarded healing. If the blood flow is not getting to the injury, it won't heal properly. Thank about that, it makes sense. In order to help the body heal Angiogenic treatment encourages the proliferation of existing blood vessels and the detoxification of the cell through exchange of fluids. This assists in regeneration, reduces pain and improves tissue function. We believe Angiogenics is the solution for most neuromuscularskeletal (NMS) pathologies and when used alongside our neurological approach (HERE) allows us to help chronic persistent conditions that have failed to respond to traditional methods. Below is a short video explaining the process of Angiogenesis and how it work in your body. THE REST OF THE STORY...
I first heard the term Angiogenesis back in 2001 while researching the benefits of laser on healing soft tissues. At the time I never paid much attention to the term but understood that it was a biochemical process whereby the body grew new blood vessel pathways to the injury.
Over the years I have treated thousands of patients and witnessed many full recoveries from what initially seemed hopeless. Those patients who got the best results shared common traits. As I accumulated data I realized that good cardiovascular heath was a common theme. Although this was interesting, at the time, I was far to busy to appreciate the clinical significance of this finding, instead I just continued to do the work and help as many people as possible. I never thought about lowering blood pressure to help with back pain but as I started interpreting my results those patterns showed me something incredible.
There was a relationship between the health of my patients cardiovascular system and the prognosis for full recovery. I knew this was important but never understood why, other than the obvious correlation that a healthier patient would heal better. Of course there is more to the story.
In the chiropractic profession there is a saying, “One cause, one cure”. This was first postulated by Dr. Fred Barge, DC in his book of the same title. Of course this was ill received by the medical community and heavily criticized by many other health professionals. Admittedly it does seem ridiculous to presume that there is only one cause for all diseases and only one cure. Immediately people think chiropractors are suggesting spinal misalignment can cause everything from back pain to cancer and an adjustment is all that is needed to fix everything. This is not what Dr. Barge meant by his one cause one cure suggestion. In the doctor’s own words,
There is but one cause in disease,
the bodies inability to comprehend itself
and/or its environment.
There is but one cure in disease,
the bodies ability to heal itself.
And there is only one thing
any doctor can do for a patient.
And that is to remove an obstruction to healing,
thus facilitating it.
So the key is the body heals itself and treatment, regardless of what it is, needs to support the body natural innate healing abilities.
Have you ever bumped your arm? Hurts right? And usually a bruise will form and then over time fade until it is no longer visible. In other words it heals. The process of how it heals involves your body growing hundreds of small blood vessel branches into the damaged tissues. This supplies oxygen, special cells and vital nutrients to help the injured tissues regenerate and mend. This process is called Angiogenesis.
The more I witness people heal in my clinic the more I understand how important Angiogenesis is in that process. If a person is not able to grow these blood vessels into the injury they will not heal effectively. Angiogenesis is, in my opinion, the unification theory of all healing. This of course is why my data favored those patients who had good cardiovascular health. The connection was Angiogenesis.
VEGF: Vascular endothelial growth factor is a signal protein produced by cells that stimulates the formation of blood vessels. Certain conditions like cancers would benefit from an increase in blood vessel growth, therefore much of the research money has gone into anti VEGF treatments (anti-angiogenic therapies). This makes sense, a cancer cannot grow without enough blood supply. It is also a reason why cancer therapies can cause neuropathy in many patients. For me, I do not treat cancer but instead focus on degenerative diseases like arthritis. Increasing VEGF in those patients improves clinical outcomes in pain and function.
As I continued to research I discovered several effective therapeutic modalities that could produce the same effect on blood vessel growth as administering VEGF to the patient. As I went deeper in my experimentation it seemed that may treatments I had been using on my patients were not working on the assumed mechanism but instead were influencing angiogenesis.
With continued refinement and experimentation I assembled what I believe represents the very best non drug approach to assisting the body to heal through therapeutic angiogenesis, simply called angiogenics™.
Results have been very promising so far and the studies continue. Below is an example of how Class 4 laser can produce a comparable result of using VEGF to stimulate blood vessel growth. This is truly incredible and impossible to discount by anyone whoo reads the research article. You can read the article (HERE).
